Painting has become important to my life again and I've made a turn of 360 degrees to get back to the same point. Now painting is not just an object, it has an aura; there is a light again around the work.
The personal images in my work reflect my life. Like Chichikov in Gogol's novel, Dead Souls, I am a 'collector of souls'. My studio is full of spirits seeking release from bondage of my painting and of being human. My portraits, landscapes and drawings are semi-abstract, and emotive. They can be bold, and uncompromising, or playful and full of pathos. Though the paintings convey these perceptions they nevertheless reflect my vigour, love of humanity, and determination. I have steadfastly kept to one goal: to paint people and landscapes honestly, as I see them with all their idiosyncrasies of that specific time, plus that Zeitgeist.
Importantly I share with you the ability to penetrate the psyches, minds and the motions of my subjects. Picasso had many generalities. Mines are all - mostly a specific person and place. Shelley said: "A poem is a moment's monument." Now, a painting is just that.
